DIY Projects Need To Be Done Properly

Homeowners embarking on DIY projects need to be careful how they go about them because poorly completed work can have "repercussions", especially when it comes to selling a house on.

That is the opinion of Andrew Leech, director at the National Home Improvement Council (NHIC), who remarked that it is important to have any work assessed by a professional.

Anything involving gas and electricity requires the input of specialists, he added, while solicitors need to see the right paperwork for any works carried out.

They will ask for details and certificates to verify the quality and safety of the workmanship, Mr Leech stated, warning: "If you haven't got certificates, then you won't sell the house."

A recent report from tradesmen revealed that almost two-thirds of British homeowners plan to make home improvements this year.

Of those, 63 per cent have painting and decorating in mind, with more than a third looking to revamp their bathroom or kitchen.
