Advice Offered For Practical Kitchen Designs

While many people may desire a contemporary "chef's kitchen" as a fashionable choice, they may not be the most practical solution for everyday cooking.

This is the view of Arrol Gellner, writing for the Boston Globe, who explained that many professional-looking kitchens require a large floor space and a lot of maintenance, neither of which may be possible for the majority of householders.

A better plan for a home would be to create a room that is specifically tailored to a person's cooking style, he stated.

A good design should be focused on a triangle between the three main areas – sink, cooker and refrigerator, ideally uninterrupted by through traffic and no more than a few steps apart for ease of use, Mr Gellner added.

It is also important individuals do not overlook minor details such as the position of kitchen appliances, as "they can spell the difference between a kitchen that's a pleasure to work in and one that's a daily pain", he noted.

Wickes recently suggested that many people may be looking to purchase major items for their home now in order to beat January's VAT increase, as sales have been up in recent weeks.
