Bleed Radiators to Keep a House Warm

Bleed Radiators to Keep a House Warm

People who may have noticed their central heating is not warming their property as well as expected may need to check their radiators.

According to the Shropshire Star, if they are hot at the bottom but cold at the top, this can be a sign there is trapped air inside, which will prevent water from circulating.

Therefore, it is important to bleed the radiator as soon as possible in order to prevent energy being wasting, the newspaper stated.

Some radiators may be bled using a small screwdriver, while others will require a special key, which can be picked up at any DIY store.

It is important to turn the heating off and let it cool before beginning the task as if there is still hot water inside, this could scald.

Covering the floor underneath the radiator is also a good idea as dirty water can spurt out.

It was stated recently by David Harari, manager of the Widnes branch of Travis Perkins, that it is important to keep a well-maintained heating system in order to save on energy bills, the Runcorn and Widnes Weekly News reported.
