DIY and home improvement is currently "all the rage", one newspaper has asserted, with more Britons attempting to carry out renovations which will help their property sell.
According to the Mirror, homeowners looking to carry out a home improvement scheme should think carefully about how they will add value to their house, or risk being left with an "expensive DIY disaster" on their hands.
Peter Gerrard, property expert from Moneyextra.com, told the paper: "In tough times, money is tight so it is important not to get swept away with personal tastes. Remember, simple is the solution."
The Mirror therefore advises that homeowners speak to an estate agent to find out more about what buyers in their area are looking for in a property before they begin their home improvement.
Furthermore, it states that Britons should be familiar with their DIY skills in order to ensure they do not leave a job half finished, while sticking to simple and neutral designs is more likely to appeal to buyers than personal renovations.
Michael Holmes, home improvement expert and editor-in-chief of Homebuilding & Renovating Magazine and Real Homes Magazine, recently claimed that essential DIY and repairs should be prioritised if people wish to add value to their homes.
