Those looking to undertake home improvement projects in order to increase the value of their property have been warned by one publication not to go to extremes.
US News Money explained that some projects can actually devalue a house and going "over the top" on remodelling work can put buyers off if the results appear too extravagant.
"To them, the restaurant-sized stainless-steel stove, kitchen island and fridge just seem excessive and they're not going to want to pay for them," the publication stated.
The same could be true in the bathroom, as water-hungry additions such as jacuzzi tubs and high-powered showers may put off those looking to save on utility bills and people hunting for an eco-friendly property, it was claimed.
However, it was recently suggested by the Liverpool Post's Katie McLoughlin that a well-designed and stylish kitchen makeover could improve the odds of selling a home, recommending classic features that would have a broad appeal.
