18th January 2011 People looking to improve the chances of selling their home may like to consider refitting their kitchen to make the property look more appealing to potential buyers.
The is according to Katie McLoughlin, writing for the Liverpool Post, who cited a study from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors that found improvements to kitchens can increase the value of a home by up to four per cent.
She advised those thinking of installing a contemporary kitchen not to make the features too personal, instead opting for "more classic kitchen designs that will appeal to a broad range of buyers".
For properties where a complete overhaul is not necessary, replacing cupboard doors and worktops can help give a kitchen a fresh, clean look and is a much cheaper option than a full makeover, Ms McLoughlin added.
It was recently suggested by interior designer Adrienne Chinn that kitchen renovations may be popular home improvement projects this year.
