Why extend your home?
There are many reasons why people decide to add a house extension. The most common being the growth of a family in order to provide more bedrooms or more living space. It may increase or improve the facilities such as a larger kitchen or another bathroom either because the original were not very good, possibly built to the requirements of another era, or improved financial circumstances, or requiring something better.
An increasing number of people work either full or part time from home and an extension to your home can provide the additional space required. This has been made possible by improved communications and internet speeds that enable documents to be readily transferred between offices in one part of the world to another hundreds or thousands of miles apart quicker than it would have taken to pass them from one adjacent office to another in the past. It is a trend that will undoubtedly continue and is in many cases is becoming quite popular enabling savings in travelling time, more flexibility in working hours and allowing people to live in places fairly remote from their employers which might allow living in a more pleasant (and sometimes cheaper) area. A home extension may allow a relative, friend or lodger to live with a family for personal care or additional income. Occasionally houses are not actually extended because of any particular need but largely as an investment. Perhaps the property is significantly undersized in relation to the plot and other properties in the area and so it may be seen as adding value to the house which will be realised when the time comes to sell.
