Moving in London Costs a Fortune
People forget how much moving actually costs until they’re in the middle of it.
Stamp duty on an £800,000 property is over £28,000. Then you’ve got estate agent fees, solicitors, surveys, removals and that’s before you spend money on the new place. By the time you’ve finished you’ve easily spent £50,000 to £80,000. Sometimes more.
And a lot of the time people end up in a very similar house, a few streets away, with a slightly bigger kitchen. That’s it.
The Space Is Already There
A neglected loft. A narrow strip down the side of the house. A rear garden with room to extend. I’ve walked into hundreds of homes over the years where the answer was staring everyone in the face.
We’ve turned unused loft spaces into proper master bedrooms with ensuites. We’ve taken that wasted strip down the side of a terraced house and created stunning open plan kitchens. We’ve built garden annexes that completely changed how families live.
The people who’ve saved the most money aren’t the ones with the biggest houses. They’re the ones who took a proper look at what they already had before deciding to leave.
